Guru Purnima - 2017

Gurave sarva lokanam, bhishaje bhava roginam, Nidhaye sarva vidhyanam, Dakshinamurthaye namaha .   The Full Moon Day in the month of Ashada (June - July) is known as Guru Purnima. Guru Purnima marks a significant day as Hindus, Buddhists and Jains look up to their elders and teachers to celebrate Guru Purnima. The word GURU is derived from two words, gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. On Guru Purnima, people pay respect and show gratitude to their teachers through Guru Puja. Other names for Guru Purnima include Hay Moon, Ripe Corn Moon and Thunder Moon.
